Did you know?
Coal does not just pollute when it is burned in a power plant.  The mining of coal releases large amounts of methane, a very potent greenhouse gas, which has been stored at a high pressure in cracks in the coal.  This is called coal-bed methane.  Several technologies exist to take this methane and generate power from it, thus reducing the climatic impact of the methane and generating a great deal of power from it.  Unfortunately, most coal mines do not take advantage of this technology.
